Introducing Dance for the Love of Movement - Dance therapy with me

I hosted my first dance class with some of my favorite girls from the Prodigy Program, my prodigy sis-stars. This class was intended to vibe with the girls while teaching them choreography to an empowering song. Wickedest by Tamera talks about deserving one's body, and owning the actions that'll get you one's body. My session was intended to show movement in such a way where they are feeling themselves. It was also my attempt to creating choreography for the 3rd time, and wanting to see others execute it in the way their body's flowed.

My VIBE OUT sessions, are intended to create a sense of confidence in the people who attend. I think movement of the body to a song, while flowing to a specific choreography channels a sensation to the brain. It creates a natural boost to a person's dopamine level. The "ME" is satisfied, the "ME" is feeling themselves, the "ME" walks confidently in expression. The "ME" is in awe of how the body moved. Don't get me wrong the "ME" initially is afraid, or nervous about whether they'd be able to execute the moves, but with the guidance of the teacher, (the teacher being I), and constant repetition, the "ME" evolves and the confidence levels shift.

I loved the way every one executed the choreography, all adding their own sass to the movement. While in the traditional dance class environment, teachers and choreographer make huge deals about perfection. My expectations are much different. The expectation in traditional dance classes is to teach so that the student can become better, my class expectation is for the student to leave "feeling themselves aka feeling better about themselves". I as the instructor do not want to put the pressures of meeting the choreography to a " T " but encourage everyone to do the basics and allow their body to speak on what it wants to do. The community I'd like to serve are people who want to reconnect with themselves, people of have lost some level of self-confidence or would like to boost their self confidence (stroke their ego), people who love to dance and just want to vibe out, people who want to tap into the sexual energy they have. People who love the song and love the choreography too! My goal is to have my students "FEELING THEMSELVES", and what better way than to do it if not through movement. I think movement adds onto one's self-confidence more than people realize. It is also a form of self-validation, as you are coming into the space not knowing, maybe not feeling yourself 100 percent, nervous, or excited --- to then see yourself perform. It is a proud moment that is truly fulfilling to the "Self".

I hope to keep the momentum of these classes going, of having more women who want to channel within themselves and express movement. Of seeing women execute my choreography and vibing out to life through music. Enjoy the 1:46 min class recap!

"To dance is to express, to show that you can do it, to push yourself mentally, release any doubts you may have and have fun. That is life, and you become one" - Anacaona L.
